Fighting infection: Clonal selection theory

 The animation shows how clonal selection works during a bacterial infection of the throat. The clonal selection theory was put forward by Frank Macfarlane Burnet. Burnet and Peter Medawar were co-recipients of the 1960 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for demonstrating acquired immune tolerance.
