imageProtein synthesis (per gram of tissue) occurs at the highest rate in pancreas with the possible exception of the lactating mammary gland.
imageThe proteolytic enymes occur in the inactive form in the pancreas. The underlying mechanism of pancreatitis is considered to be the premature activation of these enzymes leading to autodigestion of pancreatic tissue.
imageIn chronic pancreatitis S.amylase & S.lipase tend to be normal or slightly elevated.
