Intrinsic muscles of hand

For thenar and hypothenar muscles, think: "A OF & OF A"

Thenar eminence (lateral to medial on palmar surface):

  • Abductor pollicis brevis (APB)
  • Opponens pollicis
  • Flexor pollicis brevis

Hypothenar eminence (lateral to medial on palmar surface):

  • Opponens digiti minimi
  • Flexor digiti minimi
  • Abductor digiti minimi

Note: Both the first and last A's are Abductors.

Other intrinsic muscles of hand are Palmaris brevis, Dorsal interossei, Palmar interossei and Adductor pollicis.

Did you know?

imageAbductor pollicis brevis (APB) originates from tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium and is inserted to proximal phalanx and extensor hood of thumb.
imageThenar eminence is innervated by the median nerve and hypothenar eminence by the ulnar nerve.

Comments

you have omitted the Flexor Pollicis Brevis from the thenar group, and also that the deep branch of the ulnar nerve contributes to the thenar.
