The Palmars Adduct and the Dorsals Abduct.

Palmar interossei adduct the digit, towards the line of middle finger. And the dorsal interossei abduct the digit, away from the line of middle finger.

In addition to the above mentioned functions both palmar and dorsal interossei flex the digit at metacarpo-phalangeal joint and extend the digit;at the interphalangeal joint (exerting pull through the dorsal digital expansion).
