Spasticity and Rigidity

Think: "Seat belt = Spasticity!"

  • Car's seat belt holds back when we pull it out fast and rolls out smooth when we pull it gently. Spasticity being velocity dependent, presents like a seat belt, i.e, the resistance to motion is higher when we try to move the limb faster.
  • Rigidity, on the other hand is "uniform resistance to motion" and is not velocity dependent.
