Raised JVP: causes

 "PQRST"

  • Pericardial effusion, Pulmonary embolism, Pulmonary hypertension (chronic)
  • Quantity of fluid is more (fluid overload)
  • Right heart failure
  • Superior venacaval obstruction (distended veins without pulsation)
  • Tricuspid regurgitation, Tricuspid stenosis, Tamponade (cardiac)

 

Or, "EC PQRST"  (based on the structural abnormality)

  • Pulmonary embolism, pericardial effusion
  • Cannon waves
  • Constrictive pericarditis
  • Quantity of fluid is more (fluid overload)
  • Tricuspid regurgitation
  • Pulmonary stenosis, Tricuspid stenosis
  • Cardiac tamponade
