For thenar and hypothenar muscles, think: "A OF & OF A"

Thenar eminence (lateral to medial on palmar surface):

• Abductor pollicis brevis (APB)
• Opponens pollicis
• Flexor pollicis brevis

Hypothenar eminence (lateral to medial on palmar surface):

• Opponens digiti minimi
• Flexor digiti minimi
• Abductor digiti minimi

Note: Both the first and last A's are Abductors.

Other intrinsic muscles of hand are Palmaris brevis, Dorsal interossei, Palmar interossei and Adductor pollicis.

Abductor pollicis brevis (APB) originates from tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium and is inserted to proximal phalanx and extensor hood of thumb.

Thenar eminence is innervated by the median nerve and hypothenar eminence by the ulnar nerve.
