Purines & Pyrimidines

Purine = Pyrimidine + Imidazole ring

Purines are double ring structures and has pyrimidine ring in it fused to an imidazole ring.

Think: "Pyrimidines can be CUT out from purines!"

 Thus, Pyrimidines are

  • Cytosine
  • Uracil
  • Thiamine

 

Purines include Adenine, Guanine, Xanthine & Hypoxanthine.
